I Need a Caption
09/09/16 - Arlington, VA: Yes, an unusual lack of light for a soccer game at 8:30p. Marymount's stadium lights suddenly turned off, and after some expletives & uncomfortable telephone calls by nearby Admins the lights began to flicker again. This single lamp first, just backlighting the Men as they were stood waiting to defend their goal. Overall it was a nice break for everyone in some thick humidity well into the 1st of two Overtimes at Long Bridge Park.

Going all-out for the ball ...
10/14/15 - Arlington, VA: Marymount Freshman defender Rodney Ngoh places an aggressive high kick between two Salisbury mid-fielders. The play was deemed a dangerous kick & the Seagulls took control of the ball. The MU Saints went on to tie the Gulls 0-0 in Double overtime during Capital Athletic conference action Wednesday night.

It was a wet one today
09.12.15 - Westminster, MD: It was a wet one today. Both I in Westminster, & Ryan in Lancaster were out covering in a real mess as seen here at McDaniel. There was even a rolling lightning delay that stalled mid-day action. But everyone trudged through & it even cleared up in early afternoon ... but not after this Women's game versus York was called for poor field conditions with 19:44 remaining in the 2nd half.
On a side note, I'll be working to increase the frequency of posting, following some technical issues I continue to have with multi-image posts. Stay tuned.

Peerless Naval Lunar
9/24/12 - York, PA: For a second, I thought that Navy was waxing where NASA is now waning. Instead it was just a exceptionally unusual scene from what I normally bare witness as I'm hammering away on astroturf. I'm not sure if this was Naval training, or observation, or just a joyride, or even if it's typical. It's certainly not something that I see everyday, and I'm trying to make a point to "capture-it if I like it" ... especially fleeting momentary visual opportunities like this. The shot has been tweaked for affect in Lightroom + about a 15% crop, otherwise the elements of the composition are true ...

Child escapes Swimmer
1/14/12 - Erie, PA: MaryEllen Spooner, competing in the breast stroke Saturday afternoon for her Behrend College Lions, attempted to swoon a child to the water in turn 3 of her 100 meter breast stroke. Luckily, the young child's Father stood close at hand & it was his reactions that saved the baby from the grasps of the undergrad & what would certainly have been a soggy demise.

The Unassuming Fan
11/27/11 - Westminster, MD: These kids were really into the game. Really. It's just that their team took a turn for the worse, so they turned to their iPods. Seriously. Fair weather? How dare you. Hardened fans? Yes. And slightly sensitive too, so please refrain from your judgement.

11/19/11 - Haverford, PA: Senior Forward #40 Bo Friddell draws a foul on Merchant Marine #5 Zach Karczewski en route to the hoop. He missed the bucket, but sank both from the foul line. The Fords went on to secure their first win of the season, a 64-51 victory in their 20th Annual Equinox Classic.

Winter? Yikes.
11/9/11 - Gettysburg Wrestling: I'm kind of bummed that my last football game is this weekend and that I'm covering winter season athletics already. I should be mentally prepared to move indoors, with the October snow & end of Daylight Saving Time, but I'm still a little upside-down about it all.

11/6/11 - Lancaster, PA: Covering the Centennial Conference field hockey championship yesterday, for the National Anthem, they brought the flag directly onto the field. Apparently, the latest storms snapped their pole. So, I attempted a shot for which I usually don't have the opportunity ...

Pic of the Day | Goucher Soccer
10/27/11 - Towson, MD: Freshman Forward #19 Sherlanda Buskey plays soccer like an unleashed Pit Bull, here attacking the ball early in first half action against Washington Adventist. It's going to be a fun four years covering her on the field (and the court).

Rapid Inside Work @ Gettysburg Field Hockey
10/21/11 - Gettysburg, PA: The chaos that occurs at the goal in field hockey is so rapid with minute motions, it's often tough to make a clear capture. There's the feeder, who often distracts me too much to follow the ball into the inside girl, who's looking for a deflection, a slap, or a redirecting flip. There's so much rapid activity & obstruction that I usually don't have a real clear view. This worked out well - and just as the sun popped out.

Pic(s) of the Day
10/15/2011 - Westminster, MD: Franklin & Marshall's C.T. Marsh (#6) sacks McDaniel Quarterback Nick Valori (#5) with 1:58 remaining in the game. Recovering the ball in the scuffle, Marsh ran it back for a 24 yard touch down. Struggling to recover from a 24-0 halftime deficit, the Terror attempted to regain momentum scoring in both the 3rd & 4th quarters, then they recovered a fumble preceding this play. However, this final & brief possession for McDaniel added insult to injury and sealed a 31-14 victory for the Diplomats at Scott S. Bair Stadium Saturday afternoon.

There were lots of great celebration this weekend, this moment topped the chart for expression ...
10/9/2011 - Lancaster, PA: Franklin & Marshall junior defender Alex Grassi (16) erupts after his blast found empty net. The second team goal in 46 seconds and third of the second half left McDaniel's defenders stunned. The Diplomats dug in further with a final score at 87:31, ending with a 4-1 win over the Green Terror at home.

Noodling ...
Summertime is a time for me to regroup, plan, wander, and do some decompression … like digging in the earth. My Father in law is an old share cropper from Missouri, so he felt right at home as we were walking around my garden looking for a little extra something for dinner … when he dove straight into my potato patch and pulled out a new potato. "We call it Noodling for potatoes" … and that just made me smile.
